A group of 15 students from the Communication & Media department of University College of Bahrain (UCB) took a trip down to the Bahrain TV on 23rd December 2010.
The purpose of this visit was for enabling them to learn the practical knowledge and experience in the field of TV Broadcasting, Journalism and Multimedia.
Students, including their department Head were content about the general orientation provided by the TV station staff, with a special focus on what the students have been studying.

A group of 15 students from the Media and Communication Program at UCB got the prestigious opportunity of attending the Dubai International Film Festival
(DIFF) from 12th - 15th December 2010.
The film festival is a world renowned event where aspiring and veteran film directors, producers, actors and other elements of the film industry meet through
international film premieres, workshops, conferences, etc. In DIFF, Students had the prospect to view the worldwide premiere of the widely-acclaimed and Oscar
nominated film "The King's Speech". As part of the film festival students also attended workshops, panel discussions and visited the region's largest film
Participants even had a glorious moment to mingle with the stars at red carpet premieres for the Egyptian social drama "6, 7, 8" and the Russian film
"Tomorrow Will Be Better". The outing was part of a growing repertoire of student events created, to offer members of the University the chance to participate
in educational and entertainment activities as part of their UCB experience.
The students along with their Head of department and Faculty member thoroughly got the pleasure & learned quite a lot from this episode.

Graphic Design department at the University College of Bahrain (UCB) organized a trip to Imagination Printing House, for the Pre-Press Production Course students on Thursday, 1st of December 2011. The students were welcomed by the Printer Manager and were taken around the office tour.
This was the unique opportunity for the students to come across the practical experiences that they have learned theoretically. At the Publishing House they discovered the technical requirements needed to turn their designs into printable material, as they understood the relationship between digital files, films, plates, proofs and how to set the right requirements for offset printing in addition to the post press procedure.
Students including their faculty member were satisfied about the practical knowledge provided by the Imagination Printing House staff.

Graphic Design department at the University College of Bahrain (UCB) organized 10 days trip to Germany for 10 students accompanied by 3 faculty members. The trip began from Berlin and went to Munich, where they visited various museums for Arts, Graphic Design, Science & Cultural and exhibition centers among other places of interest, such as Deutsche Guggenheim, Charlottenburg palace, Alte Nationalgalerie, Big Brain Audio workshop which included digital audio fundamentals and basic music production, Neue Pinakothek which is famous for paintings and sculptures, Pinakothek der Moderne and Schlosspark Nymphenburg Palace. Finally the students ended their journey in Salzburg, Austria. Here, they visited Mozart’s House, Residenz Palace and Museum der Moderne. All the students including the faculties thoroughly enjoyed the trip and were delighted with the opportunity of seeing such vibrant artwork and expressed their gratitude to UCB for this wonderful experience.

A two-day Workshop on ‘Developing Measurable Student Learning Outcomes and Assessments Materials’ was held on 20 – 21st of November 2011, at the premises of University College of Bahrain, led by Dr. Tala Khudairi from Boston, USA. The objective of the workshop was to provide professional development for faculty, staff and administrators on the topic of academic quality assurance, and build awareness on student learning outcomes and assessment measures. The workshop focused on developing student learning outcomes at the program and course level. UCB management and faculty continue to build and develop a curriculum suitable for students in Bahrain and the gulf region based on the best international practices and procedures. The two days session was informative and delivered real insight in the ongoing effort to improve overall quality assurance at UCB University College of Bahrain.

University College of Bahrain/Graphic Design Concentration invited Bahrain- based communications expert Vahid Mehrinfar to address its students and faculty to promote creative enthusiasm among students and engage professional talent with international expertise.

Third year in a row and still going strong, as part of continuous involvement with community development, the students of University College of Bahrain (UCB) organized the Breast Cancer Awareness on 25 October 2011 from 12pm - 3pm in the Saar Hall. During these hours, students set-up the stalls where Cupcakes, Ribbons, T-shirts and various accessories & other items were sold to raise funds to buy a MRI machine for the Salmaniya Medical Complex to support this cause.
Shaikh Ebrahim bin Khalid Al Khalifa, Executive Director, sent out a note of encouragement to the UCB students mentioning, “we are quite pleased with the way our faculty, staff and students were united in the name of such a noble humanitarian cause, including raising awareness and generating funds for such a cause is one of the utmost benevolent acts anyone could do for humankind. This is one of the many student ventures where we have proved our maximum support and encourage more of the likes” he concluded.

On 6th of July 2011, BDF commander-in-chief Field Marshal Shaikh Khalifa bin Ahmed Al-Khalifa received University College of Bahrain President and Founder Dr. Sh. Khalid bin Mohammed Al-Khalifa.
In their meeting Sh. Khalifa discussed with UCB President the coordination and the existing co-operation between BDF and UCB.

It's another successful academic year for University College of Bahrain. Under the patronage of H.E Dr. Sh. Khalid bin Mohammed Al Khalifa, Founder and President of University College of Bahrain, the university celebrated its Seventh Commencement on 4th June 2011 at the Ritz-Carlton Bahrain Hotel and Spa.
103 students, from both Undergraduate and Masters in Business Administration (MBA), were honored in this prestigious ceremony. As the tradition goes, the ceremony began with the students', faculty & University dignitaries' procession. The Chief Marshall, Mike Lewicki, hosted the ceremony.
Dr. Khalid, the Founder and President, welcomed the parents and guests. He spoke on how successful UCB has been in graduating more than 900 students in the past 9 years since its establishment. He remarked on the high recruitment rate of UCB students in the government and private sectors and mentioned about the various milestones that UCB crossed, the latest being the Knowledge conference that was held in January 2011. Dr. Turki Ahmad Bani-Khaled, the Vice-President for Academic Affairs and Quality Assurance, addressed the audience, saying that, "In the coming years we are going to make fundamental and transformational changes to the whole of UCB. The only thing that will not change is the vision of the UCB founder: the determination to become one of the top leading universities in the country". To represent the Islamic Finance concentration in the Business Administration program, graduating student Mr. Mahmood Al-Shala spoke on how the professional education and support provided in UCB has given the students a platform to develop & progress. He said, "We are now equipped to face challenges in our careers." The seventh batch of 2011 was represented by student Ms. Nada Al Thawadi and she quoted Dr Khalid where he said that one should be optimistic of a bright future. She also expressed her gratitude for the guidance given by the faculty, staff and parents and that UCB has instilled a sense of pride in the students' achievements.
This graduating batch of students had 25 High distinction achievers and 14 Distinction graduates and they were awarded for their accomplishments.

Climate change is one of the most pressing issues today and being environmentally friendly is becoming a very popular social trend in today's societies. Although it currently is just a trend, our final year Public Relation's Student Mazin Swar, believes that being environmentally friendly must move from concerned individuals and groups to a wider range of Organizations.
Thus, Mazin's concentration for his final year project was on making a plan for University College of Bahrain to 'Go Green'! He gave a talk in front of the PR jury and proposed his full plan to raise awareness amongst student, faculty and staff and to turn the university into an eco- friendly organization with minimal cost.
The jury and management encouraged the project and will be applying the ' UCB GO GREEN' campaign on a bigger scale around campus.
