The General Organisation for Youth and Sport (GOYS) kick-started the eighth edition of the Bahrain Universities Model United Nations (BUMUN) Conference on November 29-30 2012.The two-day conference continued at the Crown Plaza Hotel and was held under the patronage of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sport Chairman and Bahrain Olympic Committee President HH Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa who was present at yesterday's opening session.
UCB was proud to present our four representative delegates in the ceremony, where Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Ghanim Al Buainain, Capital Governor Shaikh Hashim bin Abdulrahman Al Khalifa and members of the diplomatic corps were also present. Each student had to represent a country and had a chance to explore key issues like Nuclear disarmant, human trafficking etc. The BUMUN participants were split into 4 committees- the General Assembly, Security Council, Economic and Social Council(ECOSOC) and International Atomic Energy Agency(IAEA).
Omar Turk, Rami Elayyan and Diana Abumoghli were delegates in the General Assembly. Omar represented Argentina; Rami represented Uganda while Diana was the country delegate for Azerbaijan. Noora Al Balooshi was a delegate in the ECOSOC and represented Ghana.The students gained experience in the areas of public speaking, debating and social networking.
Noora was awarded “Best Delegate” and will be one of the chairs in the BUMUN 2013 as the Security General of the General Assembly.
This programme represented a pioneering step in the field of youth work, which is in compliance with the directives of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa to prepare the youth and strengthen their knowledge in order to lead the promising future of Bahrain.
