Graphic Design Students participated in a Wax Batik Workshop

A Batik Workshop was organized by the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia and UCB’s Graphic Design Department. The workshop was conducted by Mr. Nanang Sharna, one of the most prominent Indonesian Batik Designers introducing techniques of the wax Batik design which is one of Indonesia’s cultural heritage arts having a long history of acculturation. Batik designs are known for their diverse patterns being considered the most developed form of design and artistry in terms of pattern, technique, and the quality of workmanship. In October 2009, UNESCO designated Indonesian batik as a Masterpiece of Oral and Intangible Heritage of HumanityStudents and faculty members thanked Mr. Sharna for visiting and introducing the different methods of wax Batik design.
