BUSINESS DEPARTMENT ADVISORY BOARD MEETING

On January 29, 2017, the Department of Business Administration and Humanities held its advisory meeting at UCB campus. The meeting was attended by internal and external members.

Among the external members that attended the meeting are Dr. Hana A. Kanoo, Senior Economist, Economic Development Board, Bahrain, Mr. Luc Metivier, Chief Executive Officer, Takaud, Mr. Ebrahim K. Ebrahim, Chief of Government Business Officer, Takaud and Mr. Hussain Bokhammas, General Manager, Bokhammas Group. Two external members namely Dr. Hamid Merah, Secretary General of the Accounting and Auditing Organization for Islamic Financial Institutions and Mr. Yughandar, Chief of Financial Officer, Bahrain Cinema Company apologized for not being able to attend the meeting.

All the internal members were present during the meeting namely Dr. Abdullah Al-Hadrami, Dr. Saad Ahmed and Mrs. Shemily John. The meeting was chaired by Dr. Sutan Emir Hidayat, Head of Business Administration and Humanities Department. During the meeting, the members discussed some important issues such as the course structure of both BBA and MBA programs and some inputs from the industry regarding the skills necessary for the graduates to compete in the job market.

"UCB top management met Top Management of Takaud Company"

On 12th January 2017, UCB's top management met top management of Takaud Company to discuss possible cooperation between the institutions. At the meeting, UCB was represented by its president, Prof. Salah A. A. Emara, Prof. Shawaluddin Anis, Head of Multimedia and Communication Department, and Dr. Sutan Emir Hidayat, Head of Business Administration and Humanities Department. On the other side, Takaud Company was represented by its Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Luc Metivier,  and Mr. Ebrahim K. Ebrahim, Chief Government Business & Communications Officer. During the meeting, UCB Executive Chairman, H.E Shaikh Dr. Khalid M. Alkhalifa came to greet the guests and welcome the initiative taken by the two institutions to discuss possible cooperation.

National Day Celebrations at UCB Campus

University College of Bahrain celebrated Bahrain’s 45th National Day with great enthusiasm. The members of the Student Council decorated the campus with flags and in the theme of the National Day. The highlight of the event was the performance of the students & staff on the Ardha.


                                 
 The traditional dance left audience totally engrossed and the spectators cheered for it. Another highlight was the national day themed cake, that was cut by Dr. Khalid Al Khalifa, Founder Chairman, UCB along with faculty, staff & students of the university. The day also show participation in the “national Day Theme” car decoration. Food & festivity was the order of the day.

                           

 

Dr. Sutan Emir Hidayat represents University College of Bahrain at International Peace Institute (IPI)

Dr. Sutan Emir Hidayat, Head of Business Administration and Humanities Department, University College of Bahrain (UCB) delivered a presentation on Islamic Finance and Sustainable Development at the office of International Peace Institute (IPI) MENA region on December 13, 2016. The event was attended by Ambassadors of several countries such as Indonesia, Japan, Russia, Malaysia and Libya. Businessmen and academicians from all over Bahrain were also present at the event. Dr. Hidayat said Islamic finance principles and practices are very much in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) as framed by the United Nations. If it is implemented properly it will help countries around the world to achieve the SDGs by 2030.

                                                          


BOOK LAUNCH BY DR. SUTAN EMIR HIDAYAT

Yet another achievement by Dr. Sutan Emir Hidayat, Head of Business Administration and Humanities Department, University College of Bahrain was launch of his book “Contemporary Issues & Development in Islamic Finance: Thoughts of an Indonesian Diaspora in Bahrain. The event was graced by the presence of dignitaries to launch the book - Madam Nor Hoda, Charge de Affaires, Embassy of Brunei Darussalam in Manama, Bahrain, Honorable Shaikh Dr. Nizam M. Yaqoby, an International Prominent Shariah Scholar who came to the event as the discussant of the book, His Excellency Chilman Arisman, Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia to the Kingdom of Bahrain, and Prof. Salah Emara, President of University College of Bahrain (UCB). Dr. Sutan thanked Dr. Khalid Al Khalifa, Executive Chairman, UCB for his continuous support, guidance & encouragement.

                                            
                                                                 


WORKSHOP ON PHOTOGRAPHY IN ASSOCIATION WITH US EMBASSY BY MR. RINZI RUIZ

As a continuous part of learning, UCB organizes educational/cultural exchanges and invites speakers to do workshops and inspirational talks to students in related fields.  

In collaboration with The United States Embassy, Bahrain, UCB invited Mr. Rinzi Ruiz for a Workshop on Photography at UCB campus.

 

                                                                
Mr. Rinzi Ruiz is a Los Angeles based freelance photographer. His work has been featured in the Los Angeles Times So Cal Moments, the Think Tank Gallery YOU ARE HERE Exhibit, at the Hatakeyama Gallery Street Photography Exhibit and his first solo exhibit, Street Zen, at the Perfect Exposure Gallery. His work also includes portraits, landscapes, urban landscapes, events and weddings.  

He shoots the streets as often as possible and is familiar with the different areas in Downtown Los Angeles. Mr. Rinzi's street photography style combines light and shadows and graphic elements to portraits of interesting characters he meets along the way.
                  

He shared his experiences, taught students’ different aspects of photography. The students of the Photography class along with other students & staff interested in the topic attended the workshop and asked various questions at the end of the session.


         

Prof Salah Emara, President, UCB, presented Mr. Ruiz with a UCB shield as a memento, which he delightfully accepted.



University College of Bahrain represents at BUMUN - 26 & 27 November 2016

Bahrain Model United Nations is sponsored and organized by the General Organization for Youth and Sport Bahrain (GOYS). It teaches the participants on how to exploit and utilize their skills of public speaking, critical thinking and negotiation in order to seek solutions to various global problems and helps prepare them to become good global citizens.

Representatives from UCB participated in the 12th BUMUN program held on Saturday and Sunday, 26 & 27 November 2016 and represented Guatemala and Luxembourg in the General Assembly, and Nigeria in the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). The topic of discussion in the General Assembly were Cyber Security and protecting against cyber warfare & Adapting to recent development in small arms and light weapons.

The debated topics under International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Bioterrorism and the Environmental Consequences of Nuclear Energy. The MUN crisis issue was focused on finding a solution to human trafficking.

                                           

The students representing UCB at MUN were Mr. Shaheen Mohd Hussain, Mr. Sam Nader & Mr. Saleh Al Balooshi.


 

UCB HOSTED THE BAHRAIN SCIENCE INDIA FORUM

University College of Bahrain proudly hosted Bahrain Students’ Innovation Congress. The one day event was organized by Science India Forum Bahrain on 25th November 2016. The event saw participation from 18 teams from around 10 schools in Bahrain. There were two participation categories under which the students presented their projects. The event was attended by more than 150 guests, including teachers, parents and UCB representatives. Prof Salah Emara, President UCB, addressed the students. Dr. Nandita Sen Gupta & Dr. Latika Chaudhary also addressed the gathering, where they talked about the different career options available to students. 

                 
                  

  


STUDENT COUNCIL ELECTIONS

University College of Bahrain, conducted the Student Council Elections – 2016 on 22nd November 2016. The Nominations process started from 14th November & last day for filing nominations was 16th November 2016 - 4pm. The Canvassing/ Campaigning period was from 16th Nov - 21st Nov 2016. Voting was open from 9am - 4pm on 22nd Nov. The posts open for Elections were Other Posts open for Nominations were President, Vice President, Treasurer, Head of Sports Affairs, Head of Academic Affairs, Head of Students Events & Activities, Head of PR & Media. The final results were -

FIELD VISIT BY STUDENTS FROM THE PR DEPARTMENT

The Public Relations Department at University College of Bahrain, organized a field trip for its students to the fourth edition of the Gulf Political Media Forum. Organized under the patronage of Deputy Premier Shaikh Khalid bin Abdulla Al-Khalifa. Bahrain Institute for Political Development (BIPD) the theme of the forum was " Gulf Joint Identity Conference.”

The objective of the conference was to Shape a media address that reiterates the Gulf joint identity, and to deter the risks and challenges of globalization.

The conference was divided in 3 sessions. Session 1was on Globalization & the Cultural Heritage, covering topics on Socio-Cultural Challenges & Political and Security Challenges.

Session 2 focused on The Gulf Identity Future, talking about Future Outlook & Tools and Methods of a Sustainable Identity. 

Session 3 focused on Media Role in Promoting the Gulf Identity with emphasis on Radio and Television, The Press, Social Media networks and the New Media.

 

Dr. Amira Karam El Din, Associate Professor Communication & Multimedia department, initiated her students to the conference, as it would benefit them.
