Concentrations

UCB offers Two MBA Program concentrations including:

  1. Islamic Finance
  2. Management

Islamic Finance Concentration

The MBA in Islamic finance is one of the concentrations offered in the University College of Bahrain (UCB) MBA program. The University realizes that Islamic finance is recognized as one of the fastest growing areas within international financial industry today. In addition, Kingdom of Bahrain is recognized as one of the International hubs for Islamic finance. Yet, despite this rapid growth, one of the key issues that needs to be addressed in order to sustain the solid growth is talent development within the industry. It is estimated that the industry will need around 50,000 professionals in order to sustain the current growth. This need is expected to rise in the coming years. Based on the above background, UCB recognizes that in order to sustain and support the development and growth of the industry, an important prerequisite is the development of talent and expertise that is needed to drive innovation and raise the performance of the industry to greater heights. The potential for Islamic finance on a global scale is only just being realized, with the sector expected to make huge strides over the next ten years. To be eligible to offer such products, market participants must be well-versed in the groundings of Islamic finance. Therefore, since fall semester 2006-2007, UCB has started offering the MBA in Islamic finance which aims to fulfill this gap by creating Islamic financial professionals in order to address the human capital needs of the Islamic finance industry. The UCB MBA in Islamic finance was developed earlier by benchmarking the concentration into MBA in Islamic banking and finance of International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM). IIUM is considered as one of the most reputable universities in the world for Islamic banking and finance academic programs. In fact, following the development in Islamic financial industry, and to cater the market needs, UCB has developed more specific new courses that IIUM does not offer.
